WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: Oct 24
BONES: The bonefishing was outstanding with everyone from beginner to expert catching bonefish with several large specimens landed by Laura and Theresa. Ned landed 3 on the first day he ever held a fly rod, Richard and Britney both landed their firts bonefish while fishing with us as well. Large schools of bonefish were found all week. Some of these schools contained all large fish perhaps readying to spawn with the full moon. Larger fish were definitely more prevalent this week.
PERMIT: No one was targeting permit this week and only one was landed while bonefishing.
TARPON: A few large migratory tarpon were still found by guide Kachu and his angler Giulio from Italy. Traveling the world searching for tarpon, Guilio was rewarded with fish from 20- 70 pounds. Many more were hooked and released on the first jump! The days when the visibility was good translated into better tarpon days out on the flats.
SNOOK: No snook were targeted or caught this week.
OTHER: Barracuda, snappers, blue runners and groupers were all caught.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONES: Gotchas, crazy charlies, christmas island specials – the usual suspects.
FOR TARPON: All White Cockroach ( size 1/0) , black death (tarpon bunny style) size 2/0 Giulio’s Puglisi style bait fish with a green back, white sides and belly size 1/0-2/0
FOR PERMIT: N/A.
REPORT SUMMARY:
Tarpon fishing remained good although it was streaky. Some days several boats hooked up ten, and the very next day no one hooked up. Fish were sighted on the flats every day. Some were quite aggressive! Bonefish seemed to be easy prey for both spin casters and fly fishers alike. Permit were elusive although no one targeted them this week. Hurricane Richard hit the mainland with far more force than our island. We had some wind, but no major damage from the storm.
