Ibera Marsh Golden Dorado

With a cavernous mouth, precision-meshing razor teeth like a Wahoo and the biting power of a piranha, the front section of a man-sized Golden Dorado is something to behold.
A close relative to Africa’s Tigerfish, the Dorado looks like a linebacker dressed in a metal flake gold uniform with black stripes. He strikes like a pike, pulls like a freight train and leaps repeatedly when hooked.  His jaw is oversized and bony and difficult to penetrate. I had two bite through 50 pound cable.
No doubt, these guys are definitely in the top 5 of freshwater bad guys for both fly and conventional tackle. I’m not talking about 4-10 pound babies you see the fly weenies catching on TV, I’m talking about big ones. Over twenty pounds, over thirty, maybe even twice that.
Although Dorado are found in much of the Parana River drainage, the muddy water that accompanies rainy periods hinders the fishing.
Regardless of rain, the marsh that forms the upper drainage stays clear year round and offers fabulous fishing all the time.

The Marsh:
Although Dorado are found in much of the Parana River drainage, the muddy water that accompanies rainy periods makes fishing all but impossible in the main river stems.  Fortunately for anglers, regardless of rain, the marsh that forms the upper drainage stays clear year round and offers FABULOUS FISHING ALL THE TIME! More than twice the size of Florida’s Everglades, it is an area of almost untouched wilderness!  With the exception of a few islands, some of which are inhabited by solitary natives, the entire area is a floating mass of living vegetation. It is home to untold wildlife. Because of the consistently clear water this is an exceptionally good place for a legitimate shot at any of the flyrod records. The largest fish ever caught here was more than thirty pounds.
Although the marsh has numbers of widespread, lake-like areas, most of the fish are found on current breaks along the myriad of channels that drain this massive marsh.
